An experiment conducted on Halloween shows how people often will not be content with what they have, but will want more. It is evident not just in older people with many possessions, but even in kids with something as simple as candy. While most kids won’t take more candy or change their choice when told to take only one piece, an article from The Society Pages writes, there are several variables that cause kids to take extra, depending on who was in charge and whether they had to disclose their names. See the article here.
It is always tempting to say that we are trusting in God rather than the things we own. But what do our pursuits and anxieties truly say we trust in? Whether someone is fixed on creating their identity based on how many things they own, or they spend time anxious about needs, the ultimate way to contentment is to trust in God as the provider of all that we need in any given moment. The source of wanting to accumulate more is that there is a part of our hearts that distrusts God and what he has planned for us.
Don’t sacrifice your contentment for more stuff you don’t really need. Trust God to provide everything you truly want.
God is on the move!
