Pastor Jason Atchley - October 22, 2025

A pastor was preaching a sermon one day, thought it was a pretty good one. He looked down and happened to notice his wife furiously taking notes on the backside of the worship guide. After the service, the pastor asked his wife what she thought of the message. “Oh. Well, I didn’t really pay attention,” she answered. “What do you mean?” he responded. “I saw you taking all those notes!” “Oh that, that was just me making a grocery list,” she said.

So often it appears that we approach worship, and even the life of faith, with, at best, partial attention. This Sunday, I will begin a short series called Never Enough: Finding Contentment. Contentment comes from a change in our priorities. We should not spend our time in worship thinking about what we’re going to buy or even where we will eat when church is out! That isn’t the description of someone who is content, but of someone who is anxious and worried about the day.

It would be a worthy exercise for you to make a list, not a grocery list, but a list of all the things you are worried about. Look over your list and ask yourself these questions…Does the time I spend worrying about and pursuing these things eclipse the amount of time I spend serving God and trying to help grow His kingdom? How much of my time am I spending worrying about things in the future that I can’t control?

You can find contentment; it just depends on what list you make and what list you give your attention.

God is on the move!
