Pastor Jason Atchley - October 15, 2025

Rest is an activity that is meant to rejuvenate and reenergize our minds and bodies, especially after having worked and exerted energy all day or week. However, our culture tends to frown upon rest, equating it to laziness, being unproductive, wasting time, or missing out. Our main goal in understanding rest is knowing that it isn’t synonymous with laziness, but is a gift from God, meant for our overall health and well-being.

We should strive to establish a rhythm of work, worship, and rest. When we understand that rest is good, we can make it a priority, instead of pushing it off for productivity’s sake. Kenneth Boa said, “There should be a rhythm between work and leisure in our lives so that we can enjoy periods of refreshment, renewal, restoration, and relationships.”

Rest allows other opportunities in life to become priority as well. When we aren’t consumed with the direct responsibilities of our jobs, we are free to spend time with friends and family, to spend time in prayer or even to spend time sleeping.

This week Heather and I are away on a season of rest and refreshment. My friend, Dr. Ellis Orozco, will preach this Sunday. We will miss being with you, but I am confident you will be blessed by Dr. O. Pray for us while we are resting. See you all on Sunday, October 26 in worship and for Fall Fun Fest.

God is on the move!
