Review (1 John 1.1-2.2)

1. Jesus is the Son of God - He came to have fellowship with us– to
be known and to love.

2. Jesus is the Son of God and He came to forgive our sin – every
day – every moment.

3. Jesus is the Son of God and He came to be our Advocate and the
propitiation for our sins.

JESUS IS OUR CENTER AND OUR LIFE
JESUS IS THE ONE WHO BRINGS US TOGETHER
JESUS IS THE ONE WE SERVE
JESUS IS THE ONE WHO UNITES US IN OUR BROKENNESS

Today’s Message

1. Jesus is the Son of God and He came to invest His life in us
(2.3-14). So…
     a. Keep His commandments and love as He loved (recall John 13.34,35)
     b. Live in Light – not darkness (John 8.12; 9.5 – “I am the Light of the world”)
A WARNING - “even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11.14).
Isaiah 14.12         O Lucifer, son of the morning (KJV)
star of the morning, son of the dawn (NASB)
O Day Star, son of Dawn (ESV)
                           Shining morning star (HCSB)

     c. Live multi-generationally – every generation has something to offer

2. Jesus is the Son of God and He came to warn us of the dangers of this world (2.15-17).

     a. If we love the world we live in opposition to the Father (vv. 15-17)
          - Lusts of the flesh (make the stones bread – satisfy my desires)
          - Lust of the eyes (jump off the pinnacle of the temple and have everyone              applaud me)
          - Boastful pride of life (own the world and its glory – it’s my world)
          - Remember Jesus’ temptation (Matthew 4.1-11; Luke 4.1-13)

     b. To love the world is to die – Jesus came to save us and give us His life

3. Jesus is the Son of God and He came to warn us against those who
refuse to embrace who He is (2.18-23).

JESUS IS NEVER LESS THAN OR OTHER THAN WHO HE IS

For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as
apostles of Christ. No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel
of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves
as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds
(2 Cor 11.13-15).

4. Jesus is the Son of God and He came to anoint you with His Spirit (2.24-27).

Call to Listen and to Respond

There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence
over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry ‘Mine’!”
