The Spirit of Antioch: Becoming the Church God Sends

Before God does something extraordinary through the church, He first does something extraordinary in the church.

1. God prepares His church for mission through    . (v.1)

• The gospel doesn’t merely cross barriers, it   a new  .

“For you are all sons and daughters of God through faith in Christ Jesus... There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus…” Galatians 3:26-29

• The church becomes missionary by becoming the kind of   that only the gospel can  .

“…a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, and free, but Christ is all, and in all.” Colossians 3:11

2. God calls His church to mission through  -    . (v.2)

• Churches don’t  God’s calling, we  it. 

• God’s direction is most clearly discerned by people whose   are   on Jesus.

“And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him…And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit…” Matthew 28:17-19

3. God releases His church on mission through   and   (v.3-4)

• Sacrifice   the cost.
• Surrender    .

“…If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23 

The church God sends is a church reconciled by the gospel, responsive to the Spirit, and willing to sacrifice and surrender for the sake of His mission.
