    After speaking words of judgment against eight foreign nations in chaps. 1–2, Amos delivers an indictment against Israel itself in chaps. 3–6.

    One author said, “Evidently the people of Amos’s day are boasting of their national security and power. The prophet proclaims woe to those who feel secure in the strength of their nation.”

     

     

    When We Get Complacent We…

    Complacency has a way of leading us to neglect serving others in favor of what we deem important.

    Tamara C. Johnson encourages believers, “To be a catalyst for change, not a crutch for complacency.”

    Amos was crying out to an affluent, prosperous people/country. No one wanted to listen to him.

     

     

    We Must Battle Our Complacency and That Means…

    Doing nothing in the midst of the sinfulness of Samaria certainly depleted the strength of its people.

    Repentance of complacency is a step all of us could benefit from.
