Follow Along with the Message

After the exiles finally returned to Jerusalem, they mostly neglected the task of rebuilding the temple. Their consumer attitude became their culture.

God has a remedy for our consumerism attitudes, “Do what you were supposed to do. Build the temple” (see v. 8).

Only God can provide the solution to our insatiable desires—generosity by investing in what is eternal over what is temporal (Matthew 6:19–24).

As intentional disciples, we are called to live…

  1.  -  to  .

Materialism impacts our consumerism.

We counter our culture and crush the idol of consumerism when we focus on God’s purposes over our pleasures.

As intentional disciples, we should seek…

2.   Over  .

We want more, and we want our children to have more than we have.

Overcoming our keeping up with the Kardashians attitude is possible, but it requires the strength of Christ.
