Follow Along with the Message

It is important to remember there are those who choose not to follow and those who make excuses for not following. The common denominator in both scenarios is a matter of obedience.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote the classic book, The Cost of Discipleship, he says, “Discipleship can tolerate no conditions which might come between Jesus and our obedience.”

Our first would-be follower made…

1. The Excuse of  .

When our time is tied up in seeking wealth and comfort in this world rather than on investing in our eternal relationship with God, we risk missing out on a far greater blessing than fame, fortune, or any earthly bling could ever provide.

Our next would-be follower made…

2. The Excuse of  .

Another word for delay is procrastination. I heard it said one time, “Procrastination is the arrogant assumption that God owes you another chance to do tomorrow what he gave youth chance to do today.”

Our final would-be follower made…

3. The Excuse of the  .

We must maintain our focus on him and not become distracted with other responsibilities or relationships that would cause us to make an excuse to not follow Jesus.
