Follow Along with the Message

The Christmas season is a reminder how God declares promises made, promises kept.

Issac Watts’s best-known hymn might be “Joy to the World,” sung by millions of Christians during the Christmas season. It was inspired by Psalm 98.

We can sing Joy to the World because…

1. God is a     God.

God keeps his promises and responds to his covenant people—whether that was with Noah, Abraham, Jacob, David, or the new covenant in Christ.

Promises and covenants are integral to our understanding of Old Testament and New Testament theology.

We can sing Joy to the World because…

2.   has Come to the  .

In Psalm 98, God specifically remembers his steadfast love and faithfulness for his people and his creation.

Stephen Cole said, “So, when you hear or sing ‘Joy to the World,’ make sure that Jesus’ coming is truly a source of joy for you.”
