Follow Along with the Message

At the front of Gideon bibles it reads, “Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword and the Christian’s charter.”

Charles Spurgeon wrote, “We are to use the sword, and that weapon only. Therefore, if you are going to this fight, see well to your only weapon. If you are to have no other, take care that you have this always in your hand.”

What does the sword do?

1. The Sword   Life it Doesn’t Take  .

Its readers don’t make it sacred and special. Its author does.

One author said, “There are over 40 references that liken the Word of God to seed-producing life when planted. It germinates over time, grows, and produces fruit.”

The Bible Exposition Commentary points out that “Peter tried to use a sword to defend Jesus in the Garden but he learned at Pentecost that the sword of the spirit does a much better job.”

How do you use the sword?

2.  The Sword is a   for Every  .

Think of Scripture as your Swiss Army Knife for the Christian life. Everything you need to understand how to be saved and to live the Christian life is there for you.

Warren Wiersbe said, “Christ is the truth, he is our righteousness, he is our peace, he is faithful, he is our salvation, and he is the Word of God. When we receive Christ we cast off sin and put on the whole armor of God.”
